The Immaculate Conception
First half of the 19th century
Church of St. Felix, Venice, Italy
This painting uses the traditional iconography of the Immaculate Conception. Attended by angels/putti, Mary stands on a crescent moon and crushes the head of a dragon. The one unusual feature is the addition of St. Michael, who is about to slay the dragon himself.
